Valuable Tool
It is necessary when reading to be able to comprehend the ideas being put forth by the writer of the material you are reading. I have found that the Oxford English Dictionary has been a valuable tool for my understanding of much of the material I have been reading both for recreation and for business. As these volumes are not easly accessed at commercial stores. It was a great delight to discover I could purchase them online at Amazon.com.
It was very convenient and easy to purchase them and have them delivered to my home in a short period of time.
shorter oxford english dictionary with cd-rom
I think I am in love. This is a beautiful compliation from the twenty odd volume set!! with a cd rom a pronunciation key and use in historic context. True love with words and language, and a great teacher.
Superb dictionary
The shorter OED was a gift for my husband, and he thinks it is extremely...I'll have to ask him to come up with a word meaning really, really good.
excellent , but the cd-rom is a problem
It certainly is one of the best dictionaries available. But its cd-rom cannot be installed in a desktop or laptop. THis will severely undermine its attractiveness. Consequently, while I bought this dictionary, I still need to buy a cd-rom from Random House Unbridged and Collins Cobuild Adavanced Learner's since it is more convenient to look up the electronic version while writing on the computer.

Five stars for the book itself and the new edition is an improvement over the previous edition in text, layout and readabilty. I was delighted to get it but I advise all purchasers to check their copies. Difficult to look at every page, I agree, but my copy received in November 2006 is missing approx 50 pages between "argonaut" p114 and "axon" p163. I may be the unlucky one but you should at least check this area.
